Senior Mechanical Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Technical leadership and project engineering for the design and development of mechanical and opto-mechanical subsystems including:
  • Environmental Test Equipment
  • Optical measurement systems
  • Automation and motion control systems (pneumatic actuators, motors, sensors, positioning systems)
  • Precision positioning and/or retention using flexure based designs
  • Packaging and component integration
  • Provide Optomechanical lens designs including detail drawings and supporting mechanical analysis
  • Provide FEA analysis for stress, thermal, vibration, and shock including onsite support at environmental laboratories as necessary
  • Provide project definition, scope, technical specifications, performance trades/models
  • Work with development team to design, build, test, and validate performance of prototype systems.
  • Provide documentation and design control for mechanical systems.
  • Work with manufacturing team during the introduction phase and provide input for process documentation, test procedures and training of production personnel.
  • Lead advancement of  technology through creative engineering solutions
  • Manage projects that are opto-mechanical in nature. Be the primary contact and technical lead.
  • Manage less senior mechanical engineers and designers when/if we reorganize with Section Managers
  • Prepare and present PDR and CDR packages including presentation
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 7- 10 years’ experience working with Electro-optical instruments and automation systems. 
  • 5 years’ experience with Solid works required.
  • Thorough understanding of ANSI GD&T
  • Individual should have experience with the following:
  • Optomechanical, mechanical systems, and instrumentation design
  • Analysis of Structural  ,thermal,  Vibration, and Shock  using Finite Element (experience with SIGFIT is a bonus
  • Motion control
  • Instrument packaging
  • Demonstrated ability to bring designs from concept to delivery
  • Work effectively with coworkers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must possess “soft skills”: conflict resolution and negotiation, personal effectiveness, creative problem solving, strategic thinking, team building, and influencing skills.
  • Expertise in dealing with people effectively and politely.
  • Occasional travel (up to 5%)
