Manufacturing Metrology Engineering Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing and Metrology Engineering Manager is responsible for the technical leadership, oversight and direction of, and the mentoring of the manufacturing and sustaining engineering team. In addition to these organizational roles, this position will be responsible for implementation and verification of all commercial and custom metrology platforms used to insure outgoing quality control of deliverable product. Engineering, Operations, and Quality will be supported by direct leadership in troubleshooting efforts and resolution of build and testing challenges.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):
Management:
- Work alongside leadership to develop and maintain a culture of ownership and innovation across the manufacturing and sustaining engineering team; encourage and lead regular collaboration and peer review.
- Provide status updates and advise on resource loading to program management and senior management.
- Direct and supervise the manufacturing and sustaining engineering team, including conflict resolution and annual performance reviews of direct reports. Annual performance reviews include assessment of past performance, goal and target setting for future performance, and opportunities for professional development (technical training, cross training with other departments, and/or personal development training).
- Supervise and participate in the creation of manufacturing process and equipment qualification validation plans, validation protocols and reports, and their implementation.
- Mentor engineers and technicians in their trouble-shooting, repair and maintenance of alignment and metrology tooling.
- Plan, manage, and direct manufacturing engineering activities to achieve production, quality, scrap, and safety goals.
Technical:
- Develop instrument level alignment, compensation, and optical performance tests; track compliance and verification through design completion.
- Define, design and develop optical metrology solutions including hardware engineering, test software implementation, and instrument qualification.
- Collect and perform statistical analysis on metrology data to correlate to performance metrics.
- Explore novel optical metrology technologies and work with suppliers on prototype development.
- Works with Design Engineering to actively develop new manufacturing processes and equipment or modified processes and equipment in a regulated environment in compliance to ISO standards.
- Participate as an integral team member in the Risk Management process (DFMEA, PFMEA, CAPA, etcs.) in accordance with ISO and global regulatory standards.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Key qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS:
- MS or PhD degree in Optical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years related experience.

- In-depth knowledge of imaging optics, image quality metrics, optical metrology and characterization.
- Experience in opto-mechanical design and simulation using Zemax, Code V, FRED or other optical design/simulation tools.
- Working knowledge or training in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- MS Office proficient (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

- Occasional travel (up to 10%)
