Director (f/m/d) Global Design & Engineering

You will lead the local Design & Engineering of the Stratigic Business Unit Semiconductor & Advanced Manufacturing of the Advanced Photonic Solution Division. Here you will be responsible for the optimal availability and application of expertise and resources in the areas of optical design, construction and metrology development for product and technology development. In addition, you will ensure the uniform quality of the specialist competences in Design & Engineering for the SBU at the worldwide APS development locations and continuously develop the specialist competences and the product technologies of the global Design & Engineering along current and future product requirements. 

Responsibilities:

• Optimal availability and application of specialist competences and resources for product and technology development
• Further development of product technology within the framework of internal and funded development projects with internal and external partners
• Development and securing of know-how/IP, selection, coordination and long-term connection of external specialist resources from development service providers and institutes
• Preparation of decision papers, specifications and reports on competence development and technology development
• Evaluation of new and emerging technologies for their use in products and services
• Continuous further development of the capabilities and expertise of Design & Engineering along current and future product requirements and processes as well as on the basis of concrete objectives
• Consistent application of established development processes and tools and participation in their further development in the sense of development excellence
• Disciplinary and technical leadership of the local Design & Engineering of the SBU S&AM (solid line)
• Technical cooperation and coordination with the relevant global development organisations of APS, JOOSUS, JOCN and SO (dotted line)
• Leadership of the team leader R&D SBU S&AM of JOCN (dotted line)

Requirements:

• Completed diploma or master's degree in the field of physics, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering/fine mechanics, doctorate in the field of natural sciences or engineering is an advantage.
• Relevant professional experience in the development of optical, micro-optical and/or microsystems products or technologies
• Many years of personnel responsibility for development areas in an international business environment with several specialist groups
• Demonstrable knowledge of project management and patent law 
• Ideally with international experience in South East Asia and/or North America
• Expertise in optics, optoelectronics and microsystems technology, optical design, construction and testing of system solutions
• Deep understanding of technology for the development of products especially for semiconductor manufacturing or special equipment manufacturing
• Distinct knowledge for the organisation of development processes and project management, knowledge of know-how/IP protection and certification
• Clear methodological competence, especially with strengths in conceptual work, planning and organisation, presentation, handling information
• High social competence, especially very high willingness to take responsibility and reliability
• Excellent communication skills and customer orientation
• Very good handling of MS Office, MS Project, ERP software (SAP)
• Business fluent in German and English
• Willingness to travel internationally (20%)
