Senior Development Engineer, Micro-Optics

SUMMARY:
Direct both design and fabrication engineers in the development and production of micro-optics products. Responsible for developing products per customer requirements. Have a hands-on mastery of micro-fabrication processes and the ability to train others. Create concepts and prototypes that will seamlessly transition into production. Effectively communicate with customers, suppliers, and productions teams the job requirements and progress.
RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
- Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of robust manufacturing processes for SiO2, GaP, CaF2, ZnSe, and other devices, and similar products using semiconductor-related wafer fabrication technologies; including photolithography, plasma etching, wet etching, metal lift-off, metrology, dicing, assembly and inspection.
- Design and assemble functional prototypes.
- Assist in the development of manufacturable production flows for new products.
- Work with both Design and Fabrication Engineers to evaluate candidate designs and to finalize designs.
- Provide sustaining support in the production area. Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis of out of control and out of spec conditions. Implement corrective actions to prevent their recurrence.
- Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication, presentation and reporting skills, and data analysis and problem solving.
- Monitor process and equipment performance by analyzing inline SPC data.
- Actively support continuous improvement, cycle time reduction, and yield enhancement initiatives.
- Communicate job progress with customers.
- Schedule personnel on production jobs and coordinate with other managers for shared resources.
- Select and manage vendors for outsourcing steps. Coordinate timelines, capabilities, and requirements with vendors.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum BS, MS or higher preferred, in engineering or science.
- 5+ years of experience in micro-optics fabrication and design.
- PC proficient with standard tools (word processing, spreadsheet, etc.)
- Experience using optical design software, Zemax preferred.
- Experience in programming languages C/C++/C#, Matlab, and Python.
- Experience in CAD packages, PCT-Creo preferred.
- Experience with design software KLayout is a plus.
- Knowledge of wave, classical or fiber optics is required.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Computer skills for design and analysis, as well as word-processing and project management.
- US Citizenship or Qualified U.S. Worker
