Optical Design Engineer

SUMMARY:
The role of the optical design engineer is to support new product development by performing optical designs and tolerance analysis. They will generate design reports, engineering drawings, lithography mask data, and enter specifications into the manufacturing execution system.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):
- Work with sales to create preliminary feasibility and design studies
- Work with multi-functional teams to design for manufacturability
- Work with logistics to initiate system specifications in the manufacturing execution system
- Work with manufacturing to estimate optical performance impact of defects
- Perform analysis in MatLAB or other programming languages
- Attend weekly production meetings and offer input as required
- Performs all other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering/Science; Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in optics
- Prefer ZEMAX experience
- Prefer good understanding of Fourier optics/ Fourier transforms
- Prefer Matlab experience
- Prefer Object-Oriented programming experience in C++/C#
- An understanding of vector and scalar wave modeling is a plus
- Optical testing and Cleanroom experience is a plus
- Ability to read and generate simple CAD drawings is a plus
REQUIREMENTS (CONTINUED):
- Familiarity with Word, PowerPoint, and/or Excel to author technical documentation
- Ability to work with others in complex management matrix structure
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must possess “soft skills”: conflict resolution and negotiation, personal effectiveness, creative problem solving, strategic thinking, team building, and influencing skills
- Expertise in dealing with people effectively and politely
