Imaging Engineer
We are looking for a highly skilled imaging specialist to join the Hardware Platform team to work on current and new camera products, you will be responsible for the imaging hardware that is integrated into the overall system. This ranges from lens and image sensor/module selection based on product/customer requirements to device driver integration and low-level image pre-processing.
The Hardware Platform team is a multi-disciplinary team, consisting of electrical, mechanical, firmware and embedded engineers. We are responsible for delivering custom hardware platforms in-line with product/customer requirements. The team has ownership over the end-to-end design of hardware, encompassing electrical design to operating system, and board support packages.
We work in close collaboration with the Software, Algorithms/ML and Systems team within R&D. Together, we form a small group of around 20 engineers responsible for all the aspects related to the ANPR cameras, from its conception to the whole software and algorithms they run. We also work in close partnership with Product Management, Procurement and Manufacturing to ensure the overall system delivery.
About You
Joining the Hardware Platform team, you’ll take ownership of the imaging components of the system. You will have the responsibility of defining the optics, selecting image sensors/modules and integrating those components into our custom hardware platforms by means of low-level device driver development and integration into SoC vendor specific camera stacks.

- A fundamental understanding of image processing parameters such as black level, exposure, gamma etc.
- Knowledge in IR-illuminated imaging.
- Knowledge of low-level interfacing protocols such as MIPI-CSI2, USB, GIG-E, SLVS.
- Core understanding of lens selection based on requirements e.g. filters, focal length, fixed focus, zoom etc.
- Experience developing video-based applications in C/C++
- High motivation for research into the latest innovations in image sensor and lens technology e.g. polarisation sensors, event-based imaging.
- Experience working with mainstream camera module provider SDK’s.
- Basic electronics knowledge to be able to navigate through schematics.
Desired skills and experience
- Knowledge of Linux kernel media stacks such as Video4Linux (V4L2) and vendor imaging stacks e.g. Tegra camera stack from Nvidia.
- Knowledge of Buildroot/Yocto.
- Experience prototyping and developing applications with Gstreamer and other video application frameworks.
- Knowledge of video streaming protocols e.g. WebRTC, RTSP, SRT.
- Familiarity with image signal processing on a range of hardware platforms e.g. Nvidia Jetson, NXP, Ambarella, Qualcomm.
