OVERVIEW:

The Machinist operates a variety of machine tools, such as lathes and milling machines, to produce high precision assembly details per released engineering blueprints. Our company designs and builds customized unique machines that will typically result in build quantities of one to six pieces. Repetitive machining is not representative for our machine shop.

 

The Machinist may “float” on occasion to other assignments such as surface grinding, lathe, small electro-mechanical assemblies, etc. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILIITIES (Include but not limited to):

  • Set up, adjust, operate and maintain basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations
  • Demonstrate competency on a variety of industrial machine tools with a focus on milling
  • Check that all details produced meet the specifications as illustrated in the blueprints
  • Plan the sequence of necessary steps to complete the assigned task
  • Conduct tests using measuring tools to evaluate machining quality and tolerances
  • Perform machine checks and maintenance
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area

 

PROFILE:

  • Protorak experience is a plus
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex engineering drawings and blueprints
  • Must possess strong math skills, including Trigonometry
  • Possess strong mechanical skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Must have a desire to continually learn and develop technical skills
  • Active listener who is assertive, authentic, and communicates with open mindedness, empathy, and clarity

 

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of experience in a job shop manufacturing environment
  • Must own your own tools
  • Basic computer skills are a requirement

 

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
