JOB SUMMARY:
Jenoptik designs and produces electro-optical (EO) systems including but not limited to laser range finders, calibrated direct imaging lenses, laser deployment systems, and custom metrology instruments. The integration of light sources, detectors, and motion is commonplace. In this position, the Electrical Engineer will support new product development and maintenance working closely with the Advanced Systems, Software Controls Engineering, and Systems Engineering teams. Duties will range across definition and deployment of wiring interfaces compliant with industrial standards, electrical circuit design and troubleshooting, digital and analog communication, and verification and validation of EO systems. The successful candidate will be a strong individual contributor with a broad electrical engineering background.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):
• Electrical subject matter expert for growing EO systems business area
• Owns electrical design for EO system and subsystem developments
• General knowledge of both digital and analog circuit design and test for EO systems including, but not limited to low noise readout circuits for custom sensors, drive circuits for laser diodes, and interfacing with digital cameras.
• Able to understand overall system impact of electrical design choices
• Able to work with other engineering disciplines to achieve best overall system implementation
• Experience troubleshooting custom circuit designs
• Able to design and execute experiments to determine root cause for electro-optical performance issues
• Able to discuss circuit design option pros and cons and troubleshoot issues with customers
• Familiarity with driving lasers/LEDs/light source and Peltier/TEC devices
• Familiarity with the selection and application of motors, steppers, and micro-motors for motion control applications
• Familiarity with digital communication protocols such as UART, MIPI, I2C, RS-232, Ethernet, etc
• Familiarity with power system design
• Familiarity with electrical safety requirements
• Familiarity with EMI mitigation and experience with MIL-STD-461 testing
• Interpretation and execution of industrial electrical standards per NFPA 79 Handbook
• Design wire harnesses and electrical interconnects appropriate for applicable voltages, currents, and communication protocols
• Designs test setups for EO subassembly testing for new production lines
• Perform prototype assembly builds including soldering, crimping, and wire harnesses
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES (NICE TO HAVE):
• Application of PID tuning in closed-loop/open-loop control systems
• Designs custom analog and digital circuitry
• Lays out multilayer custom circuit board designs
• Works with vendors to select components, resolve problems, and ensure on-time delivery of custom printed circuit assemblies

Key qualifications:
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering
• 5+ years in related field
• Proficiency in using laboratory equipment (oscilloscope, function/waveform generator, spectrum analyzer, etc.)
• Proficiency in using software and engineering applications (Windows, Office, AutoCAD, SW Electrical, OrCAD, etc.)
• Experience and skill in troubleshooting control system issues.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to interact with multi-disciplinary teams.
• An energetic, proactive, and cooperative attitude is required, with high level interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must possess the following “soft skills”: Acts with Integrity, Attention to Detail, Clear Communicator, Prioritization/Multi-task, Self-Motivated, Team Player.
• Available for periodic travel to domestic and international customer and vendors. About 10%-15% travel time should be anticipated.
